We went to pick up Rita today instead of Monday. Ginny has been an Angel helping me and went with me (as I don't have a trailer) to get my new girl today. Rita did great and with very little coaxing got loaded up in Ginny's trailer. She had a tiny fit upon exiting however, but not much. Went into her new stall pretty easy as well. Not much mooing. But when dh asked if she liked her new home she let out a loud bawl. ;D I told him I guess that was his answer. She was nervous for a bit, but is doing better. I have only milked a few times and Rita has little teats sooo...... She was produsing a little under a gallon per milking at her old home. I got almost a quart. She is a bit pushy and put her head on me when I went to tie her for her milking. I firmly pushed her shoulder and turned her head away so her next idea to keep me from clipping on the lead to her halter was to circle the stall. A quick hand got the lead clipped to whatever ring was closest and then she gave in. She had been machine milked so I was worried about let down. She did ok, it just took a minute, but I did have to keep bumping her udder gently. It did take me awhile (45 min) so she ran out of feed, even with dh parceling it out slowly. When she realized the food was all gone and no more was coming the fun began. She was determined to stomp her foot in the bucket. She was not doing the out to the side round motion kick. She was raising her hoof as high as she could then jabbing it forward and down. I was holding the bucket so she never managed to get her hoof in it. I did learn that milking by flashlight in a dark barn with a kicky cow is exciting but not much fun. We have a large shop light and will get a long extention cord tomorrow. Hopefully the morning will go better. All said though I LOVE IT. I am so happy even if she isn't an angel.
