Well, it has been awhile since I have been on-line, but my dad has been keeping me up on the great dialogue you guys have been sharing in.
My dad has been pretty busy building me a new milking parlor, I guess he was getting tired of using gates as a stall. Molly is getting pretty good at turning around in a 4-5 foot area. Hopefully she won't have to do that too much longer.
Also I have been taking pictures of the building project, even though it is not 100% complete, you can see how it is coming along.
The first pic is one of Molly, she is a little dirty, but after all, she is a cow.
The next pic is one of Molly, my oldest daughter Kayla (Madison was taking a nap) and myself. If you look at the open door on the barn, you can see the gates set up where we have been milking Molly. This side of the barn is facing West, so it gets all the cold wind in the winter. The new milk parlor is on the other side of the barn, where it is out of the wind.
The next one is the whole family. Kayla, Jason my hubby, he is holding Madison, and I am holding a newborn of a friend of ours.
Now that the formalities are over, on to the milking parlor....
This is my dad 'katiesdad' working on the raised floor for the milking stall.
This is my mom, watching hubby putting on some metal siding.
This is my dad, putting on the last of the siding on the right side.
This is the pasture side of the barn. The door on the right is the exit from the milking stall, and the door on the left goes to the pen. When it is done, there will be one sliding door. Open it halfway to exit the milking stall an keep the pen closed. Open it all the way and the pen is also open.
This is the left side. The open door leads to the milking stall and the walk though leads to the milking area.
This is the milking stall. The feed bucket is attached to the head gate. After she is done milking, all I do is open the door and she steps down and takes a couple of 45's and out the door to the pasture.
This is looking into the barn from the exit door.
The final pic is inside the milking kitchen area. The door from the previous pic, goes from the parlor to the kitchen.
Hopefully in a few days I will be able to try it all out. It is so much warmer out there then in the open barn using gates. It will be great when Molly gets a calf and I can keep an eye on her in the pen. Dad got one of the sliding doors built tonight and the other will be finished later this week. Have to finish the last part of the fence, fill the water tank and move Molly to her new pasture. I am really getting excited. I think my dad is the greatest.
Hope you like the pics.
