The pop up add for Top Grade Cow Hides appears on this page so I am posting here, although this comment more properly belongs on Across the Fence. The name of the company is Sunland and they are selling Brazilian hides.
I sent for one of these hides a few days ago. It arrived much sooner than they said. The hide was just plopped into a box and came with no paperwork, nuthin. But I tell you what, it is a very beautiful hide. The coloring reminds be a lot of pictues I have seen of Longhorns. I ordered tricolor. It is brindle but with a white spotty streak down the withers. It is beautifully tanned. I paid less than half what I paid locally a few years ago to have one of the Coburn Farm steer hides tanned.
I'll be sending in a hide next week to have tanned. Red Angus, should make a nice rug to go on that tile floor in front of the TV in the house in Florida.
The guy we use is really quite reasonable, but he sends them out to California. I've never had him do a cow/steer hide, but we've had him do several deer & elk over the years. He only charges $80 for a deer hide, with or without hair, $40 for a coyote or fox.
Sorry, I meant to add this to the other post....are you using yours as a rug or going to make something else out of it? Also, I worry a bit about the cats doing their "business" on it as that happened with a New Zealand sheepskin we had...any experience with that? Kim in VA
A cat peed on my down comforter years ago and I have never allowed cats in my bedroom ever since. Sure made me mad.
Kim, I got the one that says 20-29 sq ft. It is about 6' x 6' not counting the blips at rhe corners where the legs were. It is smooth and silky, not fluffy the way the hair is on my cows. Everyone seems to like it a lot.
claytonpaul: A bull was put on her herd Late Last May so she was expected to be due between May1 and August. They quoted me August so I wouldn't be disappointing by a late arrival.

alpacalexi: My mini jersey cow is pregnant, however the last couple days her udder has deflated. My vet saw her on the 23 and said delivery in a couple weeks Is there a reason for her deflating?

Trim: She probably aborted a while back. That happened to one of my animals. She was bagging up but within a short while of her "due date" she began to deflate. I had no idea what had happened. I was seriously bummed out.
