Hi all,
Hope it is OK for goat 911 to go here....
Sam is running a temp of 104.4, looks like death warmed over, and feeling like poo.
Kidded 1 still born and 1 deformed kid on 3/22
Did not clean out took her to the vet on 3/23, x-rayed no more kids, started on Bio-mycin 8cc's every other day until 3/29 (last day of meds).
Seemed to be recovering well until 4/5
Just "off", depressed seeming
4/6 temp of 104.4, she *is* still nibbling around at food and is drinking well.
Have been drenching her with Rena's drench daily since kidding date.
She has free choice orchard grass, alfalfa, and wheat hay, as well as round the clock access to pasture and brush. Free choice iodized salt block and loose salt, as well as purina goat trace minerals. Basically what Sammy wants, Sammy gets, 24/7.
I loaded her up today with Pen G and Bio-mycin, 10 CCs of each. I am assuming that she has a pretty serious uterine infection. I am also assuming that it is too late for any kind of uterine bolus?? I am planning on continuing the bio-mycin and Pen G daily. Any other or different suggestions? Would a sulfa be better?? I have Albon on hand, but I am a little leary of damaging the rumen action anymore than I already will with the antibiotics. Banamine is coming home tomorrow as I gave mine to my neighbor, and I'll get her going on that as well if her fever hasn't dropped to a comfortable number.
Oh, have been hand milking her OAD and her production has decreased by half.
Ok I think I have given all the info that I have.....
Thank you in advance,
Becky
