Ok so the past few weeks have been me going between showing beef cattle, sheep, or pigs. So here is my problem:
GBJB Dair Goat Project
Ok so we love goat cheese, but do goats need to be milked as much as cows since they do not produce as much? I want to do this one, but finding a good dairy breed goat around here would be pretty hard.
JBGA Breeding Beef
I am very interested in this one since I have good access to some very nice crossbreed heifers and a good angus bull so I would be able to do this, but do I need to get a calf or a bred heifer?
JBGB Breeding Sheep
This is the one I am favoring the most because I love sheep and my cousin as been doing it for years so I have some knowledge of it and owuld be able to get help. I could keep a small breed of lamb at my house, but have only been able to find dorset lambs in my area which are pretty huge as I've been told. For this project would I need to get a lamb or a mature ewe?
GBLB Breeding Swine
This is my second choice as I found a really good Yorkshire litter that is due on the 17th for a good price of $80 a head. I've read about the porject and the person agreed to allow me access to his Hampshire boar for 4-h members, so I would be good on breeding. For this project again do I need a bred gilt or can I get a young feeder pig?
So those are the options and well I really need some opinions because me and my friend need to get hoppin on getting a animal for 4-h so all help is greatly appreciated ;D ;D ;D
