From what I have seen with horses and hoof/leg injuries, it is not uncommon for the leg bearing the weight ( in compensation) to suffer damage. If this was something that I was dealing with first hand, I would get that crack cleaned out well! Then while it is clean I would pack it with raw wheat germ mixed half with powdered comfrey root and turned into a thick paste with raw unpastuerized honey, you can add wheat germ oil to this mixture if you desire. . Never clean this out, only keep adding it to the previous application. After you first apply this cover it very well and securely with sterile gauze and vetwrap. Every other day or 2 open and add a new application of the mixture. The wheat germ is very nutritive to bone, flesh and cartilage. The comfrey has the property of going deep to heal the tissue and speed up the growth. The honey is anti-bacterial and acts as a nutritive healing agent. This is a natural no chemical way of doing it and I have personally used it with large wounds. The person I learned this from used this mixture with success to grow fingers back that have been taken by accidents! Feed her internally wheat germ oil and powdered comfrey in her feed. Add vit. C and garlic to combat infection. My horse became paralyzed from her mid back down. She was on the verge of dying after months of conventional treatments. I found a holistic vet in Florida who provided me with a homeopathic treatment and I did my research and found an amazing feed source. The feed contained herbs galore! Rosemary, garlic, sage, rosehips, marshmallow, comfrey are only a few! Then I used only quality alfalfa hay and she was walking and trotting a little in 6 weeks! I know your situation is different, but dont give up! You have done a fantastic job so far!
