???Hi everyone,
I haven't posted in a while but I'm still in the family cow business!
Just this morning Grace's 7 month old calf somehow cut her front knee. I discovered it while getting ready to milk Grace. It seemed to be a really fresh cut with hide flapped open. I was able to clean it pretty well and as I didn't have any bandage tape I put a gause bandage and some faithful duct tape on her. It has been raining for days here and I needed to keep it clean so the duct tape did the trick. I don't know if regular bandage tape would have worked to keep it clean. She was able to walk fine with this on so I suppose it will do. I did purchase some cohesive flexible bandage at the feed store, but don't want to use it till the ground is a bit dryer. I'll check her tomorrow to see how it is doing. Should I give her a shot of pennicillin? (sp) I can't find where she cut herself. She was in the barn all day yesterday so it must have been somewhere inside but both my husband and I looked for a nail or anything but couldn't find it. She also seems to be starting her second real heat again. Been bellowing all day, so I will need to keep her in the barn again tomorrow, as last time she just busted clear through the fence, three times. I just about got laid out between her and Grace. Oh well enough of my rattling, as usual, when I get started this is the case.
Anyway, if any of you have suggestions as to how I should treat this cut please advise.
