Posting for Joann who is with Helen right now
Sometime early this morning, Helen went down. Last night, she had received a tube and a half of the CA-Mag paste. The first was administered after checking Helen's ears which felt cold to the touch. She also had alfalfa cubes and molasses available but did not seem too enthused about either. A couple three hours after the first tube of paste, she got another.
I don't know the exact details of how she went down, if it was in front of Joann or if she and Sally found her that way but I do know that she was laying there, unable to lift her head and moaning. She also cut up her nose pretty bad as she went down. Little Emily did not get injured and even nursed as Helen lay there. Joann and Sally got Helen propped up as best they could and started administering molasses to her with a turkey baster. Dr. Cooper was rousted from bed and came as soon as he could (he lives an hour away). Before Dr. Cooper arrived, Martin, Mark, and Max helped Joann and Sally to get Helen rearranged and better propped up with hay bales. Dr. Cooper gave her two doses of glucose via an IV, one right into her neck (hope I'm getting this right!).
Helen has already perked up quite a bit and is able to now hold her head up and reports are that her eyes look brighter. In a couple of hours, she'll get another tube of the CA-Mag paste and yet another 12 hours after that. Thingas are improving but she's not out of the woods yet.
My first thought was - this just CAN'T be happening! Everything seemed so perfect yesterday but in just a few short hours it all changed.
I don't know when Joann will be able to post (she's not leaving Helen's side) but she wanted me to let you all know what was going on.
