Things are moving along nicely, although we're in the middle of a mid-90s heat wave. Took Brandy for a long walk yesterday to the Post Office, along Main Street, and to a friend's house. The trip was punctuated with lots of carrot and apple stops, some grass grazing (on my command), and even a swim in a pond. Brandy went up to her belly, and did pretty well, although she preferred being on shore where there was grass. The water was so clean and very refreshing with the 90 degree heat. I then let Brandy graze on shore untethered while I continued my swim.
A little kid and his mother came to the pond, and the kid decided to run up to Brandy to say hello. Brandy decided to head home, and trotted up the trail toward the street, landscaped houses and flower gardens. I learned that you should never run after a horse (they just trot faster), and had to follow her for about a 1/4 of a mile in bare feet. I finally got her when she decided to stop in a hay field. She stops as quickly as she starts - what a brat. I then turned around, and marched her right back to the pond. I didn't hit or discipline her because I read that she'd then associated punishment with getting caught. I did tell her that she was a very naughty girl. After another quick swim on my part, we headed home, where I fed her, and turned her out with the cows. She seems to be getting calmer and more settled, and seems to be putting on weight. I love her dearly.
Heading out to milk before it gets hot.
