OK, you guys, I need some feedback. I was just re-reading this thread:
familycow.proboards.com/thread/100118/best-stand-mixer-attachments
And I'm still confused. I guess it's a personal thing, but I need to know which one is better/sturdier/heavier duty. Right now I have a KitchenAid Artisan (I think, it's the 4-quart bowl, light duty), and I've had it since 1998. I'm pretty sure it was a rebuilt back then. It still works, but I have the pin holding the head on clamped with a c-clamp, it leaks a small amount of oil out of the attachment hole, and when I'm kneading bread, it sounds tired. Sometimes it sounds like I don't know who will win, the mixer or the dough. I was going to get a bigger KitchenAid (one of the 600s with the lift bowl), but it's so tall it won't fit on my counter under my overhead cupboards, so I'm not sure where I'd keep it. The floor? Then I'd trip on it all the time, and probably the cats would sleep in the bowl. (I'm joking, I wouldn't keep it on the floor.) I've been stressing over this for months now, and still haven't decided.
Then the other day I got an e-mail from the place I buy my yeast, saying they have a glut of Bosch mixers (because Germany stopped selling to Russia, I guess?), and they're on sale. I can get a white Bosch Universal 800 watt machine for $300-something, and a black one with the stainless mixing bowl for just over $400. I'm tempted, because it has a much lower profile and would fit on my counter, but I know nothing about Bosch mixers and I don't want to spend that kind of money on something I might regret.
So, would those of you who have Bosch, and especially anyone that has had both, please tell me if a Bosch is a good investment, or if I should stick to KitchenAid? (The KitchenAids are not on sale, however...) Mostly I just use my mixer to make bread dough. Once in a great while, I'll use it for something else, but 99% of the time it's for bread.
