The last batch from the isabel rooster started hatching today, so I can just sell him. I put a ton of eggs in my big incubator and my two smaller ones, so I can sell him as a trio as I've finally got replacements hatching after what seemed like a two year chicken breeding disaster. He is getting meaner by the second but apparently more fertile. I can't even sit and watch the chickens on the other side of the coop without him attacking the wire between us.
I'll let the injured leg roo, pictured above, watch the chicks when they feather out. His leg used to be straight back. I did something like chinese foot binding, just wrapped and stretched the foot back under him for a week. He uses it to balance now and is more mobile and upright. I might try doing it a second time. The first time he had to stay in a plastic moving box so he wouldn't move. I'm not sure how to restrain him for a week now. I used cotton stuffing, vet tape and masking tape as his leg had calcified and was rigid. The foot is also twisted and rigid, but I might try. He seems quite happy now and hesitate to cause him more pain, but he really wants to be with other birds. I tried giving him a companion. Three days went well the fourth he got his head almost pecked off and is still is bald. It was the mean rooster I tried buddy him with when he was much younger and not known to be mean. The last time I took a chicken to the vet they looked at me like I was nuts and euthanized it.
