As the title says, this is the necropsy report for a goat. I know what is going through my head , but I would like to pick your brains. I am the one who sold her and at this point I am leaning towards a refund but would sincerely love y'alls take on the preliminary report here. At the time I sold this girl she appeared extremely healthy. She kidded without assistance and I saw the afterbirth. There is no argument between me and the folks who purchased her. I am just trying to make sure that I am understanding everything the way I think I am in this report. I will with hold my thoughts as I do not want to color anyone else's views.
Purpose OF Test
Diagnostic-Livestock/Poultry Food Animal
History
Kidded roughly July 11 2022. First pregnancy. Purchased July 13th. Fine July 23. Went down July 24. Milk production
decreased a lot. Temperature was 103.9. Famacha good. Took to vet - died 15 minutes before getting to vet. Expelled
secretion out of vagina. Vet tested secretion and found bacteria. Also did X-ray and ultrasound to rule out another fetus
but they were inconclusive due to rumen.
Diagnosis
One-year-old, female Boer cross goat.
1. Presumptive toxemia/septicemia, suspected etiology bacterial infection.
2. Internal parasitism with:
a. A few Haemonchus sp. detected in the abomasum.
b. A few tapeworms in the small intestine.
Diagnosis Comment
7/26/2022 – Preliminary report – The most significant changes detected grossly in this goat are suggestive of a
septicemia/toxemia, that could have originated on a uterine infection. Additionally a few worms consistent with
Haemonchus contortus and a few long tapeworms were detected in the abomasum an small intestine respectively.
Microscopic examination of tissues and parasitology tests are pending, A future report will follow.
Pathologic Anatomic Findings
A 1-year-old female Boer cross goat is received for necropsy on July 26, 2022, a full necropsy is performed on the same
day. The carcass is coated black and white and weighs 38 kg (83 lbs) and has no ear tags. The carcass is in fair
postmortem condition and good nutritional status, with adequate body fat stores. There are multiple, subcutaneous,
extensive hemorrhages on the thoracic area, along the vertebrae and on the left thoracic wall. There are large numbers of
petechiae and hemorrhages in multiple serosa surfaces. The oral cavity, tongue and esophagus are within normal limits.
The trachea is within normal limits. Within the thoracic cavity, there is a small volume of watery fluid in the pleural space.
The lungs are diffusely dark pink, congested and pulmonary samples float in formalin. The heart has multiple petechiae on
the epicardial sac and on the epicardium. Within the abdominal cavity the liver has an markedly enhanced reticular
pattern, the gallbladder contains a moderate volume of watery bile. The spleen is within normal limits. The rumen contains
abundant finely chopped light green roughage. Large amounts of cottonseed and its mucosa is within normal limits. The
abomasum contains a large volume of dark green, creamy material and a few short, thin red nematodes morphologically
consistent with Haemonchus sp., its mucosa is within normal limits. The small intestine has a thin wall, is segmentally
distended with green watery fluids, its mucosa is within normal limits. There are a few, long tapeworms in the small
intestine lumen. The cecum contains small amounts abundant pale brown creamy material, and its mucosa is within
normal limits. The spiral colon contains very small amounts of brown creamy feces and its mucosa within normal limits.
The rectum is empty and its mucosa is within normal limits. The kidneys and adrenal glands are within normal limits. The
urinary bladder is contains a small volume of normal looking urine and its mucosa is within normal limits. The uterus is
partially involuted and contains abundant dark yellow creamy material. The mammary gland is milking and within normal
limits. The brain is within normal limits. There are no other significant changes.
