My daughter came up from the barn yesterday at 6pm saying that Junie was kidding. I has just looked everyone over 2 hours earlier and she didn't look ready???
Anyways, she had her in a kidding pen so I drove up, crawled up the ramp into the barn and sat and waited. She had just started so I knew it may be a while since she is a FF. About 15 minutes later I see a foot and then after a while another and she isn't progressing like I would like so I had my daughter hold her ( she is a bit flighty in nature) and I had a feel. I found the head right there but she gave a push and out came foot #3
I had my daughter go down to the house ( we don't get cell service anywhere on the property) to call the vet as I thought it would be faster than me . So long story short the vet I usually call is on a farm call and told my daughter that " she knows what to do, just push everything back in and sort it out) He was on another farm call.
I sent her back down to call my horse vet and that was an ordeal on her and my husband that I won't go into But finally the vet arrives and she is new to the practice( 8 months) and I see this slender young vet with small hands !! Praise God !! It took her a while to get them sorted out but she did a great job and so far mom and kids ( Buck/ Doe) are doing fine.
I gave them a good colostrum feeding at 10 pm and another fill up at 5 am since mom was pretty traumatized ( she did get antibiotics and pain meds) and it was warm last night and they were under the heat lamp when I went out this morning at 5.
We saw the buck nursing this morning but when I put the doe under there she just kept going between mommas legs so I will keep trying until I catch her nursing. I hope this is my only vet needed kidding. It seems to be a yearly thing lately. I went over a decade without any problems.
These are Trigs first kids. The buck sucked down a 17 oz bottle of colostrum last night and another 17 oz this morning and was looking for more
The buck is the big one with more white.
