Hello.Hope everyone is doing well. I'm new with cows and to posting questions. But I am very concern about one of my Jersey crossed(I don't know with what). We bought her in March from someone who got her at an auction. From what we were told, she is a heifer, maybe 2 yrs old, and may have been bread. She had been eating and drinking, and gaining weight, doing well overall. Last Sunday I noticed she was lethargic and moved very slowly when I moved them to new pasture. I saw a mass hanging on her underside from her udder to her navel, most prominent on her left side (looking at her from behind), almost like something had torn inside. She continues to eat and drink water, but moves very slowly, perhaps from pain. I was able to feel the mass the following day while she ate some cubes, and it was firm, her udder seemed fuller than usual but only on the left side. From research, I thought it could be a fore udder edema, umbilical hernia, even summer mastitis since I did see some light yellowish discharged from near her udder. I spray some iodine since she had some flies on her teats. On Tuesday, I felt her udder and it was warm and firm, the mass had shrank considerably, but she still walked slow, still eating and drinking. I have called some vets before, but I'm too far for them to come and I do not have a barn to enclose her for treatment. Since we are still getting to know eachother, she let's me touch her maily when I bring her feed. Today I checked on her, still eating and moving slow. Her udder still seem swollen mostly on her front quarter, and her front left teat looked more swollen than yesterday. I do not know if she is pregnant and if this could be mastitis. I have good pictures to show, but I do not know how to upload them. Any assistance and suggestion will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
