Ok so we've milked 3 times now, guessing about 3.5-4.5 gallons each time. But she is being a bee itch about it. She does know how to kick. BUt I was warned about it so was expecting it. However the belly rope is not working, which the previous owners used. And I saw them use it. We tested it out, she took a good hard swipe at me when I tried to touch her, the owners put the belly rope on and I could literally do whatever I wanted and she stood like a rock. So I know she is capable of it.
I lost my patience with her tonight though after she kicked my claw off and drug it around. So we had a lengthy discussion about who was boss cow and what her duties were and exactly how she was going to perform them for me. By the end of the session she was doing much better still "tapping" her toe on the ground but at least not trying to take my head off, or the claw. Most of the problem is her bag is so wide and sooo low to the ground, you almost have to stand on your head to see the far side to put the inflations on. I'm sorry but that makes me a bit nervous having my head that close to the ground and her feet. I would hope her bag would rise a bit, right after all the edema leaves. She already looks so much better. Still huge but not "explosive" big. She also has chapped skin all over her teats and around each one. I am rubbing comfrey over the entire bag and her teats trying to get the swelling down and heal that chapped skin. Its not cracked, but just roughly flaky skin.
Should I give her another bovikalc, or maybe just a tube of paste, to keep her from getting MF still. I gave her the initial 2 12 hours apart and she seems to be doing fine, so far, but didn;t know if I should keep giving it for awhile, or maybe just the tubes of paste? Also what about the vitamin b shots, I gave her one the first night, how often do you give that, and how much.? I just followed the suggestions on the bottle 1ml per 100 weight. She's eating good and drinking so far.
The boys decided on Chestnut as a name
