Blame the snow but I'm already thinking Christmas. So as I'm getting pre seasonally motivated with presents and brainstorming what to get for people, I've come up with a variety of ideas to make. (I like to do homemade gifts whenever possible).
One thing that I think a couple of people would enjoy and actually use and that is within my skill set as a non seamstress are home made heat packs. This is especially handy because of my easy access to wheat at work. Wheat everywhere!
Anyway, I found an apothecary (I didn't realize anyone used that word for a store anymore! I actually want to go into the store to say I've been to an apothecary!). It is in the city, I don't like the city but they do ship so that trip to say I've been too an apothecary will be for another day. For now I can just say I've ordered from one LOL So I ordered some dried herbs for my heat packs as I didn't plan quite far enough ahead to grow and dry my own
So on order I have some lavender, some chamomile and some rose buds. I could probably easily access some EO's as well if those come in handy.
What I'm wondering is if any of you lovely people have made these before, and if so, what mixture/amounts of herbs did you use? A few blogs I've found mention amounts but most just have a list of ingredients and no amounts. I like having an amount, it makes me feel safe, even if I decide it's not enough and needs more smell.
I've also seen one that said evergreen is calming. That made me think of all the spruce needles around my yard. Could someone just put spruce needles in the bag with the wheat and get yummy smelling evergreen with no increased fire risk? Although there might be a poke you through the bag risk...
Please, tell me your home made heat pack stories!
