I am over the moon ecstatic and I would love to share my joy with you all because if I tell my local goat people, I'm sure they'll think I'm bragging in bad taste. But I have to tell somebody or I'll explode!
I just got back from a goat show over the weekend and we won...we won EVERY ring! This has never happened to me before and I'm still trying to absorb it.
Some background for those of you who aren't familiar with goat shows...This was a "3 ring show" which essentially means 3 shows (each with their own judge) are conducted on the same day in the same venue, at different times during the day. It's awesome for the competitors because you get to attend three shows and only only have to clip and load your goats once. :-)
There were also separate shows for juniors (dry does up to two years old) and seniors (does in milk). So each judge picks their junior grand champion and their senior grand champion - for a total of six GCH placings over the weekend.
In order to win a GCH, your goat has to first win their age division, and then the winners of each age division compete for the Grand Champion. Only the GCH winner gets a "leg" toward their permanent championship designation on their pedigree.
One of the best breeders in the area was at the show and they usually win pretty much everything so I was even more stunned that we won so many championships.
So now three of my juniors have their "dry leg". You need three legs to be get the permanent champion designation on the the pedigree but only one of those can be a dry leg and the other two need to be in milk. So once a doeling wins GCH as a junior, you don't show her again until she's in milk. (well, some people do but it's considered bad form since you're taking away an opportunity for someone else to win and it does your goat no good)
And three of my seniors got a leg too. For one of my girls, Champagne, it was her third GCH so she's now a finished champion. I'm so excited to see that on her updated pedigree.
Thanks for putting up with my gushing. It feels like Christmas!
I'll work on putting up some photos too once I get them off the camera.
