New thread about working on our sickly auction house Nanny.
I had other threads asking for help while trying to save her baby but we lost the baby last night.
Now I need advice on getting the poor nanny back on good shape.
She has runny eyes and is still passing gunk after giving birth. She is most likely only a week post partum or so.
She is still eating and has fresh clean water and good grass hay in front of her at all times. We have also twice offered warm corn syrup water. So far she has shown no interest. Her poop is very moist and all stuck together but is still formed in balls. They are just less formed and dry then a normal goats.
She is in a pen with a thick bed of straw and a heat lamp. With no drafts. It is a bit chilly where we are but is supppse to warm up tomorrow and all this week.
We got her Friday from an auction. We let her graze for 10 minutes on Friday while we set up a pen for her but no grazing since then.
She has had two handfuls of goat dairy ration grain once a day so far. If she keeps improving then we will give her a bit more tomorrow.
She had a Selenium shot yesterday and some Vitamin B Complex.
Today she got dewormed.
Later today we will give her some more Vitamin B.
If she hasn't drank her corn syrup water then we will give her a mouthful of corn syrup too. Or drizzle some over her grain.
Her eyes are runny and gunky and she has lots of gunk being passed from kidding still and is very dull looking so we gave her some penicillin today.
We gave her shot of Selinium yesterday and my husband bought a protein block at the advice from a goat farmer. But when I went to open the block I saw that it says not to feed it to goats that had recently received a Selenium supplement...
So how long do we need to wait before putting the block out? She is in rough shape and needs to wait until we have gotten her use to grain first anyways. But I am wondering how long until we can put it out for her to be sure she doesn't get too much Selenium.
How often should I increase her grain and how much should it be increased too? She is a young goat. A first time mother and still growing.
Thank you everyone for the help and advice I have received so far.
