Long time lurker on these boards but finally felt the need to register and comment.
1) brigitte - The vegans are obviously very passionate about their cause. You will not change their minds by contact them. bigredcow hit the nail on the head when she wrote that if you want to make change you should look at doing some community outreach with your farm.
2) I've always admired the level of respect in these forums. Comments on abortion are completely inappropriate here. I don't read this forum to hear someone else's view on abortion. I've already made up my mind on my stance and thread comments will not change it. It is no different than the vegan billboard shoving views down your throat when @brigett drives by.
My interest in contacting this organization was outrage and an interest in whether there exists an open mind on the other side of these billboards, IT wasn't to change anyone's mind. I really wanted to know what makes these people tick and why they are forcing their skewed logic on the public- much as I mentioned earlier about the beaver trapping laws in Massachusetts this could cause damage. The Humane Society ran ads in the Boston area in an effort to outlaws some forms of (Conibear?) traps because they are cruel. The measure passed because urban voters didn't understand the whole story- and then the Commonwealth was overrun by beavers who did millions of dollars worth of damage including wiping out an entire water system north of Boston (and a pond in my pasture I couldn't change). These knee jerk news bites meant to capture emotion for a selfish cause is wrong and dangerous to the rest of us, but I never quite told her that. I know a bit more about them now, and as they say, information is the key to change.
And if you read back through the comments you will find that education las long been a big part of my farm, but there are constraints to that related to work schedules and distances from populations. Parents have a much greater influence on children, and can reinforce their experiences or not.
And to correct- I don't drive by this sign but one of my milk fans does and was offended by it. I only occasionally drive by it in southern Ct.
The comment on abortion was observation, not opinion
