With that straight poll hair and no black on her face, you looken at a heifer calf soon.
Are you excited?
Make sure to take her for walks when she gets close.
Do you have some shredded beets on hand. I know you have molasses and the other goodies.
Cows love soaked beets after calving and it helps hydrate them. After all they lose a lot of fluids at calving.
Oh a heifer would be so sweet! โค๏ธ
I do have beet pulp pellets that I soak over night for her. She loves them! I have molasses too. She doesn't really like it like it though. Maybe after calving she'll like it!
Do you think normal Jersey inflations will work on her front teats? In the picture they look small, but in real life they're pretty big! Please forgive how dirty she is...
She will love the molasses after calving. Many of my girls aren't too crazy about it either (normally) but after calving, they love it. About 1 measuring cup mixed with 5 gallons of tempered (luke warm) water. She will probably drink at least 10 gallons. What she doesn't drink, I mix with the beet pulp.
Has she been machine milked before?
Did you say she is a little unfriendly or maybe i should say 'unsociable' ? If you want to friendly her up, are up to it, and you can be there close to here when she is calving and get the amniotic fluid all over your arms and let her lick you off while she is still laying down, it will make her bond with you more. Its not something for everyone, but I feel anything related to a brand new baby calf is about the cleanest thing you could have "spilled" on you. Now days all my cows think I am their calf and I can't think of any one of them that won't let me have milk anytime I want it. I didn't say they would give me all the cream I want though
