True confessions, my kids have worms! Here's the saga- Fall 2015 my 3y/o passed a "spaghetti noodle". Hmmm...Next time I knew it was a worm, and called my doc, treated with one day albenza (rx) and thought "phew, thats done" several months later two more kids passed worms, treated the whole family, and with treatment one more kid passed a worm. Apparently some folks are really mellow about this but it really freaked me out. Roundworms, huge suckers.
We've always gardened, played in the dirt, etc.. But two years ago moved to new land. So either it was in the soils, or most likely, I introduced it by (thinking I was such a cool hippie chick) running pigs thru the area I turned into a garden. Come to find out those worm eggs can persist for 5 years or more! Then chickens came through free range and probably spread it EVERYWHERE!! So last summer I only grew tall crops in the pig section, we washed hands like maniacs, and cleaned produce thoroughly. Fall 2016, here we are again with two (out of 6) kids with worms so far. I hate to abandon the garden (only flat spot, lots of work there, soil ammendments, etc.) Our doc is super mellow about this, basically suggests we live life and deworm as needed, no big health concern as these suckers are too big to wind up in scary places but Yikes! I also wonder if treating once is enough to completely get rid of them, or is just a knock back.
Anyone out there dealt with this? It's not the kind of thing you go around asking folks, although two friends have had them personally and in kids (not year after year though). Perspectives appreciated!
