I've read conflicting things...some feel cavities can be prevented and even healed in some cases with a certain diet and others don't share this opinion. Going to stop eating grains and sugar (I eat very little sugar currently) and try a more Paleo based diet. I've been eating oatmeal most mornings for the last couple of years but after doing research it appears it has phytic acid which is really bad for tooth decay. So oats and wheat I'm going to stop eating for a while. Might even start using Apple's milk raw (I've always pasturized it). Some say raw milk is supposed to be good for dental health.
Do any of you have experience with cavities healing or becoming less frequent with a strict no grain, no sugar diet?
My dentist retired. Saw a new dentist the other day at the same dental clinic. This new dentist told me I have ten cavities and should be thinking about crowns on two teeth. When I asked if I needed crowns now the response, "No, but it's something to think about." Was a little confused. They had very little time and rushed through ....when I asked how many cavities I had, "Six to ten." I didn't even know what teeth needed work because they were rushing and wouldn't clearly explain which teeth were involved. They said the front desk lady would print out a treatment plan. The front desk lady had no time and said she'd email it to me. Got an email that was confusing....needed to set up an online account to have access to the treatment plan. About $3,000 after insurance! There goes any hope of getting a Guernsey next year.....my husband was nice and said we'd save the money and not to worry if I needed the work and to schedule the appointments. After looking over the summary I saw there was a crown included - I called the office ....they said they knew it was confusing but figured I'd call if I had questions....it seems as though after the main dentist retired service had gone down the drain...they do automated calls....seem rushed ....anyway, it was added in as an upcoming cost. Found this a little odd....
I asked the dentist why my teeth had gone bad all of a sudden....I've had cavities from time-to-time in the past but 10! ....in a not so polite way I was told since I didn't have an X-ray last year that there was extra time for things to go bad. I had some full X-rays that show the root but I guess they aren't as good showing cavities as the regular ones. I didn't know this when they did the different X-rays last year. When I asked why I didn't have the regular ones they said some insurance doesn't cover them...I told them mine did. Then I was told I must have done something to cause these cavities ....like poor diet. (My diet isn't perfect but I eat mainly whole foods - don't eat hardly any processed foods - heavy on the vegetables but I do eat grains - wheat, oats, rice...) I told them I eat very little sugar ...eat fruit and some dried fruit.... "Well there you go, that's the sugar right there." Bedside tact seems to have gone down the drain as well...I miss my old dentist.
Going to get a second opinion today. Hope for better news or at least a dentist I can talk to and explains their treatment plan.....
