I love this site and everyone who has contributed over the years so thank you in advance for any help. A couple of years ago y'all walked me through saving a set of newborn Angus twins that the mother had abandoned. The calves grew up big and strong thanks to all your input and help.
I had one of my Angus cows give birth to twins last Monday. She abandoned one after about 3-4 days so I've been bottle feeding him since Friday morning. I noticed yesterday that he was struggling to walk and limping a little bit. I looked him over but couldn't find anything. This morning he was still limping and I saw that his back right leg is swollen.
I took his temp and it's 102.3. I gave him a 1.5ml shot of BoSe this morning. I also gave him a 3ml shot of BioMycin 200 just a little bit ago. I took a couple of pictures that I took with my cell phone. I hope they're good enough for y'all to get an idea of what I'm seeing.
When we brought him out of the pasture late Thursday night, we noticed a fairly surface wound on his back right hip area. I don't know if it's from barbed wire or what or if that has something to do with the swelling in the back leg. He's eating fine when I bottle feed him although I haven't seen him drink any fresh water that I have out for him yet.
I don't know if this is what is referred to as 'ill leg' or what. I checked his umbilical cord and it seems ok to me, not hard or lumpy or oozing. If anyone has any idea why his back leg is swollen and/or if I should continue with the antibiotics, etc I would really appreciate it. Thanks so much.
