I don't even know where to begin. I know I'll skip stuff but I'll try to make it make sense & be fairly quick.
Lulu calved 3/27, normal, quick, easy, textbook birth. All seemed fairly fine just dealing with her holding up for her calf. I figured we'd work through it, find a rhythm & be straight. I noticed some hardness/fullness in her RR quarter when I finally got her to give me a little of the milk, but like a moron figured we'd work it out, no big deal.
Fast forward 2 weeks & I'm noticing RF is a little full RR is still full. Milk & production has always been equal, normal, perfect, never seen a clump/chunk/grain/etc it always filters fine, tastes good & looks normal. But her right side is rock, rock, rock hard (RR & RF). I treated her for days with my usual oregano, coconut oil, peppermint, lard, cayenne, olive leaf, etc & it did nothing (combo of infusions, oral & topical). I tried to get some Pirsue but couldn't find a vet who'd prescribe me a couple tubes so I broke down & used Today (on both quarters for 7 days, yeah I know normal says 2 but I think that stuff is pretty weak). It didn't do jack.
During the week of Today her whole right side started swelling up in the milk vein, under belly, along her underside on the right side, up inside her leg/udder crack & now the swelling is up her side into the ribcage & creeping twds the spine. It's hard to get her to eat anything & she'll drink a little, not what I'd like but I've not drenched her yet (skin tent is quick, eyes bright, urine good). She's not really able to walk well b/c she doesn't use her right rear leg. Her temp has been normal-102.4 but that 102.4 was one time in the afternoon when she'd been laying in the full sun for hours (90°+). She lays down around 9 in the morning & I drag her up in the heat of the day b/c she won't move herself (she lays under a tree).
I took her to a really far new (to me) dairy vet which was the biggest crock of manure ever. I've had some crazy vet experiences but this one takes the cake. Long story short she gave her Banamine (iv), dex & Excenel (I wanted Excede but for some reason she was against it, we went back & forth for a while before she finally offered the Excenel which I accepted b/c it's better than a dead cow). She got a dose of each yesterday, I gave her another today & she'll get it again tomorrow.
I swear to god I'm getting to the point. It hit me like a freight train this morning while begging her to eat it's not matitis, you fool. It can't be can it? It's never affected the milk (at all). Her udder is freakin swollen & hard but the milk is fine. I laid underneath her poking & proding & I can see a line btwn quarter/udder & the ridge/line of the swelling I think the swelling may not be the actual quarter (but I'm not 100%).
What in the world would cause something like this? What can I do b/c she doesnt have long unless I figure something out?
