I am so amazed at this calf! I was amazed that he was even alive after 2 hours of trying to pull him, an hour of that with the cattle jack. He needed to be tubed for colostrum and his second feeding, and on the second day could stand just a tiny bit if I was holding him and keeping him from knuckling over. You can see in the pic that I made him a sling. That way I could help him without stressing my back as much and could keep him up longer. Miss baby Amanda wasn't impressed though! Haha!
Well, day three I went out and put him over my lap to try to feed him again (he wasn't keen on the bottle), and he drank a pint and a half in about thirty seconds! He was able to bear weight much better too! Suddenly, he wrestled away from me, and just kept walking! He couldn't even stand on his own before that, but he walked away!!
We have had a very tough three years, with losing two pregnancies halfway through, losing two wonderful cows, losing my job, and then hubby was in a bad motorcycle wreck in October and had a spinal cord injury, and we lived in the hospital for almost three months while the older three kids were at my parent's. Now in January we found out hubby has bladder cancer too, and will find out Wednesday if they want to remove his whole bladder or start treatments. But... FINALLY we won a battle for once!! I am still just euphoric about the whole thing!

Now Rugby follows me and the kids everywhere and nurses on Mama when she is tied up. She still doesn't like him that much, but is tolerating him. This is one time I didn't anticipate things turning out and it actually did! He even tried to get into the house because the kids were going in. He is such a fun little guy!

I think he is just the cutest thing ever! He's half Jersey and half Hereford. I named him Rugby because he was through quite a beating at birth and just kept on going!
