People can be insensitive maybe not out of malice or anything evil just ignorance. Just watch old Westerns, where they use trip wires for battle scenes. Those horses are getting agonizing injuries but they don't scream, cry in a way that reaches someone that really might care, but just doesn't know better. When I was in grade school I was shown a beautiful film of galloping horses running through water and suddenly they are set on fire. (I think it was called, "Dream of the Wild Horses) I was like "what" this horrible but everyone else just saw the beauty of it. This was before special effects. In the case of the cow it would be better to let the owner know the symptoms of pain and why this cow is really not well enough to sell.
By the way, Errol Flynn an actor of some old timey films hated a certain director because he loved animals and hated to see horses getting their legs broken and killed. Even modern films still are hard on livestock. One of the Hobbit films brought livestock to a dangerous area where the terrain was so rough animals would get killed or injured in the holding pens. They weren't hurt during filming just had a high death rate while boarded nearby. The original animal handler quit when the producers wouldn't move them to a safer area. Anyways I think education works better than attacks. There's a trend towards going the opposite direction from protecting animals because some animal rights groups have gone to far. Maybe someone can post all the symptoms of pain. I think that would helpful to some of us less experienced cattle owners but hopefully most of us could recognize that poor cow was in serious trouble.
