I thought I would touch base in case someone else is having troubles or for just a read.
Honey came into heat in Late July, inseminated her the day after her standing heat using sexed hometown on the money. It was around 14 hours after the first sign of standing heat.
Honey came back into heat mid August, right on schedule - her schedule, I was planning on having 2 cows knocked up on the first AI!!! So back to calling the AI tech. She was in standing heat around 11am and we decided to wait until next morning to AI - 21 hours after the first sign of standing heat, with sexed hometown on the money. She had a discharge and the AI tech thought it was still too early. Off I went to get a shot of Fertilan to help her ovulate.
Honey came back into heat for September, all her heats have been 21 days apart. Frustrated, I decided to go with unsexed Guimo Joel semen. Luckily a dairy farmer gave me 2 doses of fertilan and honey got one dose the night before and a dose after she was AI'd. Tech still thought it was early but we better AI just in case. Discharge. Thought the fertilan would work. I had planned to AI her again the next day but the Tech was out of Guimo Joel semen- should have picked another bull and just Dna'd the calf if it was a heifer but honestly thought the injection would work.
Unfortunately Honey came back into heat the fourth time. This time I was prepared to wait longer, since we AI'd her early every time before. She came into standing heat Oct. 7th at 11am and was still in standing heat until 3pm on Oct. 8th. I thought we may be late AI'ing her but when the AI tech came out today Oct. 9th at 8am she was still showing a discharge and again he thought maybe it was still early. He told me if she doesn't catch this time that to get a vet out to check if she is cystic or to send her to a bull. I asked him to come in the morning Oct.10th for a second insemination. He was still out of Guimo Joel so this time we used Hollylane Lilibet's Legacy semen. No Fertilan shot, didn't work the times before so instead of running around trying to find this stuff I'll save myself the trouble - my vet doesn't want to sell me any cause I havn't had him out to the farm in awhile. lol! need a new vet AI tech recommended using the mixed repromax semen, but after spending this much money I definitely want that A2A2 heifer or bull but please be a heifer?
After tomorrows insemination I know that I've tried everything to get this cow pregnant via AI. I'm not sure If I want to waste more money to bring her to the vets to check her out. I would have to send her to the vets before I send her to the bull. My next option is to sell her to someone who wants a perfect family cow, besides the fact that we are having trouble breeding her but would also make this known to the buyer.
This cow has done everything I could ask of her, besides getting pregnant, she's been the perfect first cow! And if I didn't have her I wouldn't have bought my second cow Tinkerbell, who has also been the perfect first heifer! But now I have to decide if I want to get the vet out to check her for cysts etc and spend more money trying to get her bred or should I sell and buy myself a bred heifer? Note: Already spent $400 on AI. - scary to say that out loud.
Honey is 5 years old and has only had 2 calves. She is 14 months into her lactation and is giving 2 gallons a day.
Update: waiting to test for pregnancy. If open I've decided I will get her checked out by a vet and if good to go send her to a bull.
Update: nov.5- honeys next heat should have been oct. 31. No sign of heat!
Nov.18- biopryn results PREGNANT. Very true when they say each cow is different. Finally the wait on AI ing and double AI worked.
