Wyo, do you ever have them come in with crap dried on all over their teats and udder? What do you do for that? How can I do no water, when there's that much shite covering them? I'm willing to do whatever is necessary, but I can't figure out how to overcome the crusty-with-crap teats problem.
If the udder is wet poopy, rub it dry as much as possible with multiple towels. If it's dry poopy, brush off what's going to come off. Yep, I know it makes you want to cringe, I had a hard time getting past the aesthetics of "OMG POOP!" to thinking in terms of bacteria going from point A to point B. The very thing that satisfies the sensibilities makes it not only possible, but likely for bacteria to end up in the udder.
So how do you get around that? I guess I'm not quite understanding the whole "no water" concept. Right now, I wipe their teats off with a clean rag moistened in hot water, then I dry the teats, then squirt a few streams of milk out before I put the inflations on.
Please let me know what I SHOULD be doing. I have a bottle of chlorhexadine, but after I got it I read it was "toxic," and I've never used it.
So, anyway, I'm old, but I'm sure I can learn a new trick. If you could help me through the poopy-teat issue, that would be a great start. And I can surely start pre-dipping, if I knew what to use. Whatever it might be, I sure don't want it in my milk, I do know that.
Oh, and for the infusions, I would get a fresh bottle of liquid DMSO. You'll be using 10cc per teat per treatment.
