OOOH, excellent tip/idea Heather, thank you and thank DH
hmm 2 weeks on either side? Dec 9 2013 bred date (ice storm), one gestation calculator says Sept 19 so if that is in the ball park then I started worrying a week and 4 days early! AND if it can go 2 weeks past, YUP that's the month with no sleep right there LOL
Of course I don't really know, but if she goes another full two weeks til the 19th then I will for certain need to sell a LOT more bread to pay for a C-Section /sigh she is so big already! Also if she goes much longer I worry that the calf may be so big that there won't be any room for it to "drop" and thereby giving me one of the good visual clues that she is imminent . . . .
That is an excellent suggestion regarding the pictures, I can take one from the back, one from the side and one from looking down at her tail? Would those be reasonable angles for pics to compare to the ones I took a few days ago?
Debbie, you laugh ALL you want, my friend, I want you in a GOOD mood if/when I have to call you at 3:00am saying "It's SHOWTIME! uhhhh NOW what??"
Seriously though, I feel so much better prepared on what to expect now than just a week and a half ago. I've made notes on everyones comments/suggestions, I've listed all the different "clues" leading up to delivery time, I've watched every youtube video a couple of times (including the one I didn't like), I've especially appreciated everyone who shared an experience with me regarding one of their "special deliveries", each one has helped me, encouraged me, cautioned me and even reassured me in one way or another . . .
So, thank you and now it's time for bed, her midnight bed check, and another night of annoying her and the chickens LOL
OOOH, speaking of the chickens - - I'll share a bit of excitement - - - spring this year, one evening I'd left the windows down on my little SUV over night, the next morning when I came out there was a VERY large, very long (about 5' or a bit more) Black Diamond Back Water Snake coming OUT of my car, out the window and stretched out along the running board . . . he had his tail at the back of the front wheel well and was laying along the running board all the way to the rear wheel well with his head up and over the fender, like I said VERY long . . . I went in, got my DH to come look (city boy - doesn't really like snakes) so I got a long stick and flipped it out onto the ground and just sort of "herded" it back down to the pond on the south end of the property . . . Should have whacked it's head off then, but figured it would help keep the frogs and turtle population in check . . . ANYWAY, earlier this evening as I was going out to put Adeen into the barn I just happened to glance into the hens nest boxes and there - - big as you please was either the same one or another huge Black Diamond Back Water Snake trying to choke down another egg! Well that aggravated me - - here I'd been cussing the hot weather making my poor girls too hot to lay and all the while this monster is robbing the nests! Made me mad so I reached in and grabbed him by his tail and pulled - - he didn't come out right away, I had to get a pair of limb loppers and whack him on his nose and pull - - well, long story short, I dragged him to the porch, called DH outside and told him no more clemency! He got the pick and whacked his head off. DH was, at first, a bit sad to have to kill such a large pretty snake, thinking he was keeping the frogs, mice, turtles etc down, I assured him that there were others to pick up the slack but that I would NOT knowingly let one go that was eating my chicken eggs, that it could just as easily have been baby chicks or a broody hen and those eggs . . .
That was my excitement for the day would have MUCH rather given birth weight and gender of Adeens little passenger. Oh well, there is always tomorrow, oooh wait, it's after midnight, so it IS tomorrow heheh night all
