Ok, it's official. I'm one of those "weird, ridiculous" cow people. Last night I was up late, and when I took the dogs out to go potty before bed, I heard a soft mooo. Elsie is not often vocal, and I've never heard her at night--only when I'm late with a meal. There are other cattle nearby, but this sounded like it was coming from the bottom of our pasture, possibly in the ditch. I know they sometimes sleep down there in the softer grass, so I went down to check.....in my pj's. (Carrying a big stick, in case they didn't recognize me in the dark, lol) I was a little concerned, as I had left their fly masks on & thought maybe she got caught on something (forgetting that the velcro would probably come undone if she pulled very hard, lol). Nope, no cow or calf in the ditch. No more mooing. Ok, so I am just paranoid, so I come in to finish getting ready for bed. Through the window, I hear the mooing again. <sigh> I KNOW I won't be able to relax & sleep until I'm REALLY SURE she's ok. Back downstairs. My 16yo son was still up, so I asked him to walk the edge of the pasture along the road with me (silly to be afraid to go alone...justifying that he'll be there to help if needed. This way we can see behind the trees in the ditch. Of course, we hear no mooing until we are down there--and it's coming from the other, nearby cattle, NOT Elsie! WHEW!! However, then I felt a little silly, being so worried, and not even being able to tell from where the sound was coming before that! But, I am thankful that all is well, AND that my son was willing to come with me to help (and he didn't even hint that I was silly for worrying)! What a nice boy!
I just had to share on here, where you guys would understand my worry over a cow! If I were to tell others, they would look at me like I'm from another planet, roll their eyes, laugh at me (rather than WITH) me, and tell me "It's a cow!". So, any other "weird, ridiculous" cow people out there today?
