Our little calf has a temp of 100.8 and cold ears. He is very lethargic and has watery diarrhea and sometimes he strains and nothing comes out. His eyes are not sunken in but when I pull up his skin it is slow to return to normal(though it does eventually get there). Is there a place to check tenting that is better then another? I was just grabbing any part of his neck.
We started him on bounce back electrolytes Friday evening when he seemed to not be his perky self and stopped eating his whole bottle. But this morning he is much worse. He is not interested in sucking at all. We are using a kids medicine dropper to feed him alternating warm milk and warm electrolytes every thirty minutes. We don't have a tube feeder. Feeding about a half a cup each time if he will take it. He is also under a fleece blanket,a pile of hay and we have light on him as it's dreary, raining and unseasonably cool for mid July in the south.
Is there anything else we can do until tomorrow when we can call the vet? Our feed stores are all closed unless we travel an hour away(and even then they are spotty on supplies). Should we try and get him up every once in a while to keep his circulation up? He was trying to butt the dog when we moved him up to the top part of our barn and kicking at me while I was pushing him to move so maybe he has enough fight in him to make it.
What would have been good to have on hand for this type of thing? We had the bounce back from our last two calves that had scours from too much milk but they recovered quickly(and are chunky 7 month olds now).
