I have done a little research in the past on the healing properties of sugar and honey, and have been following the thread on using honey on Brownie. Unfortunately I recently had the opportunity to try sugar. Our alpha dog thought he would teach our newest dog that he was boss. Well, he didn't fair so well. (Luckily dogs were called off fairly easily, thank you training collars!) Long story short, I was unable to immediately see all the wounds. Our small animal vet is ok, barely. Knowing Bors would have had to have been sedated to even be checked out, I felt the risk of taking him to the vet outweighed the risk of treating him at home. It took 2 days before I found all the wounds. He doesn't let on when he hurts and he doesn't let you treat him easily when you do catch on. The wounds were on his front legs, exterior side of his left leg and more in the 'arm pit' area of his right leg. All of which were accessible by his tongue. Taking a small piece of note paper, folding it in half longways and folding down the top 'nose' corners - similar to the start of making a paper airplane - I placed sugar in the crease of the paper and was able to direct the sugar, best I could, into the wounds. I was also giving him a capsule of Oregano Oil (I mixed 5 - 6 drops of oregano oil with a little coconut oil or lard in a non-gmo capsule) morning and night. I applied the sugar once a day for approximately 4 days. It took 10 days, but he healed up fabulously, even through the licking. Never developed a fever or an abscess. I was very pleased. The reason I choose sugar over honey was due to the location of the wounds and my ability to access them. I would have loved to have been able to take pictures. I was happy I was able to do what I did. Silly dog.
