It really breaks my heart to sell our sweet Holstein Freckles but I think I need to. My husband has to relocate for work in Eastern Montana. Anyway I really don't know how to go about it. I guess list her on the auction board here on KFC. I have had her since she was an hour old from next door and raised her on her own mommas colostrum and milk. WE BOUGHT or BARTERED for her own mommas milk and fed her everyday till she was 5-6 months. she was tied since we had no barn and raised with sheep. shes gentle with all my 4 kids. She had her first calf and freshened with no problems last Sept. she still is in milk. This morning she gave 3 gallons. I feed beet pulp, rolled oats, rolled barley (The only non gmo i can find easy here) We raise our own alfalfa and she has clover, grass, alfalfa for pasture. I'm drying her up in Mid Aug. She has never had any issues. she has never seen a vet. she has never seen another cattle except the Angus bull i also raised that bred her. Her cycles are like clock work... I had her AI-ed with jersey unsexed seaman.. and she is due Jan 2. I had the hoof trimmer out to do all her hooves recently. she is a great Cow! this winter was really cold and she had no issues.. NEVER any milk or mastitis issues. she has short horns that can be taken care of but they have never been a problem to our family.
I also have a very sturdy (made with 4x4's) free standing stanchion that my clever husband made and she is a dream cow with a dream of an utter. 4 great teats.. always hand milked by myself and my 13 yr old son. She raised 2 calves and gave us so much milk...just a month ago this far in her first freshening she was giving 3 gal twice a day. Never been off my farm next door to where she was born.
What can I get for her. I am not in a hurry to sell her. I have plenty of pasture but maybe the people would like to milk her themselves.? I think its best if she finds a home by nov. Dec. I can make a video of the milking... if she doesnt sell they can see the result atleast. she is the cow in the avatar pic. Can Anyone give me pointers on how to do this? or what to ask. She really is a great cow.
Thx for any help.
