Thanks We had a sweet little bull calf, born ~1:15. If I can ever get my camera to talk to my computer again, I took lots of pics
The birth was text book, but after not quite so much
In typical bull calf style, it took him about 2 hours before he was up and around. Our girl is having so much edema that he is not quite sure what to do about her HUGE teats! I know that he got on a bit, but not sure how much. We tube fed him some tonight, just in case.
Also, I waited outside for almost 3 hours post baby for her to pass the placenta, but no luck. I went in to fix dinner for my family. When I came back out the string of goo and the umbilical cord (we had to cut the cord) were gone and she had a strand of bloody tinged mucos hanging from her vulva. No sign of placenta on the ground. Can I assume that she passed it and ate it? Or do I need to be concerned? Again I took pics, but my camera (or maybe computer) is acting up. Maybe I can post them in the morning?
+++++++++++++
ETA:This morning I went out to check on our girl and we have *GOO* with a capital G and it hangs most of the way down her bag. I had read somewhere than if it is wider than a pencil it might be the mucos plug. It is definitely larger around than a pencil, so.......what do you all think? Her girly parts are still all loose/puffy. I'm still unsure about the whole pins thing, she definitely feels jello-y but the gap between her tail and her pin bones isn't what I have seen some on here looking (can't fit a fist in there). Her teats are not wrinkly any more and I *think* are starting to look waxy (if you can see around the poo she likes to lay in, haha) I don't know how soon it will be, and that is okay, just wanted to share the changes and our excitement

Oh and we're still working on names. We are torn between Lucy and Snickers. What do you all think?

As mentioned in another thread, we got our new girl last Tuesday, March 4th. She is very pregnant. we got her from a local jersey dairy. She has been running with about 25-30 other jersey girls. She has not been handled much but she is coming around rather well, I think, with some love and lots of treats (handful of feed). Anyways, when she got here last Tuesday, she was all round and pregnant looking. Since then her bag is continuing to expand and Saturday she went slab-sided. I'm still trying to figure out the pins thing, so would welcome any insight there
She will typically have access to our 10 acre pasture, which we rotationally graze. Currently we have her in a lean-to closed off by cattle panels, just while she learns that she can trust us. Even though it is heavily bedded, she is amazing at finding the spot she just *went* to lay down in, so she is rather messy in the pics, sorry! She is eating (free choice hay and daily grain) and drinking well. Poo and pee look normal.
We're so excited to have her here and that the baby is getting closer. We have raised bottle babies before and we have milked, but this is the first calving that we have been apart of. I don't know who is more excited, me or my kiddos

ETA: I forgot to mention that baby keeps kicking like crazy. Today while I was out there taking pics. the baby kicked her so hard it seemed to knock the air out of her and made her grunt and jump. She looked around a little surprised
