Well as the title says I am curious about tanning the hides or whatever you call it when you want the fur on as well. I have this crazy idea to make me a King Size comforter for my bedroom once I get enough furs together from my Chinchilla rabbits. I figure I am butchering them either way and may as well make as much of a full use of them as possible. Their fur is just so wonderfully soft and I seriously would like to make a comforter set.
I have been told I am a sick heiffer because of this by family but they just don;t get it. I will be butchering these animals either way and I may as well use their fur too. I mean it has such a fantastic feel to it and it is just gorgeous. Matching colors will not be an issue as well they are the same color. My sister was thoroughly disgusted until she was petting my rabbits one day and said man they are so soft! I bet they would be great blankets. She then blushed and said,"Shut up Rhiannon.." and laughed.Of course I had a big cheesy grin on my face and was laughing at her.
I do plan to have an inner lining as well as some "batting" in the blanket. My oldest girl has now gotten on the band wagon wanting one from our New Zealands. I told her it will be a long time yet before I do it as I want to research it first. I just find it funny that so far most of the ones that have been disgusted by the though have changed their tunes after petting and now want me to make them one.
Go figure. Then again these same ones thought I was crazy for the chickens because we raise them for food. Yet none of them had any problems asking for part of the butcher or eggs last month.Anyways! lol off my rant and back to subject. If anyone can help with this I would surely appreciate it.
