Alright-I now have a bottle of oil of oregano, (which I found VERY useful in treating the cold sores I posted about!!-wish I had had it sooner, to apply at first signs).
Now for using on Loekie....
Joule-you said you infused it into the teats on one of your cows-how much did you dilute it/what did you use to dilute it (water, olive oil)? What did you use to infuse it with? (I found it BURNED when I put it on, neat, on the cold sores!!)
I would also like to give her oral doses, but don't want to use it in the 70 gallon water trough (not that it would hurt the ponies, donkey, and Gabi who share it, but it could get costly!!) So should I just drench her? Again, how much to dilute-if at all. How much to use?? How long should I continue with this treatment??
I found that her milk started to clear quite well while using Heather's basic bag balm, but, alas, I am out of the stuff now, and it seems the saltiness has already crept back in and I do hope to effect a total cure...
(The bag balm Heather makes, btw is AWESOME!! I used it during some really cold weather here (colder, at nights than -30 C) on Loekie's VERY exposed teats, and it kept them supple and frost free, as well as helping clear up a major mastitis flare up Loekie was having when I received the balm!!)
I have re-read the section on treating mastitis in "Herbal Handbook for Farm and Stable" by Juliette de Bairacli Levy, but I don't have senna pods, and my barn isn't insulated enough that I would feel comfortable penning her in it with feed sacks stuffed with straw for bedding, and fasting her for two days, in the climate we are in!! Too bad, as the basis for her recommendations seem sound.
Anyways, any help would be appreciated!!
