This morning I saw small spots of what appeared to be fresh blood, and the ewe was shivering and not talking to her babies. I gave her pg, etc, and had a look, and there was a bit of blood on her vulva. She strained a couple of times, too. None of this was happening last night at 9 pm. She passed lots of afterbirth a couple hours after the lambs yesterday, so I was fairly confident that there was not a third lamb-but seeing this, I gloved up and felt around in there, which did not make her happy, poor thing. Did not feel a lamb-I am not experienced at this, but unless there is one up in her ribcage, I don't think there is one. Likely I was too rough yesterday getting the first little guy straightened out (and I am sure sticking my fingers up in there this morning didn't help, either). Regardless, I need to give her some antibiotics, and the only thing I have is LA200 (my vet is away all week, and the fill-in doesn't do large animals). Can I use this? I can look up the dosage, but I thought I read here it was not good with sheep for some reason? Is there anything else I can do for her?
On a good note, the black and white lamb has also figured out how to nurse, even when she is lying down. I did give him some of the rich hind milk from Helga this morning, which he liked. His brother didn't want any, having only been on his mom. Both lambs seem spunky and fine. I also gave the ewe about 4 oz of the same milk-I figured it wouldn't do any harm, and she liked it.
If the other HUGE ewe, Mint, doesn't lamb today I will be amazed. She can't be readier.
This is how I feel about farming today!
