Hello,
My name is Tracy and am new here. I have an emergency. My Jersey calved early Wednesday morning, before 6am. By Thursday morning 6am she was down. She had a tube of calcium during labor and after. Had a friend out who is a commercial dairy goat farmer, used to dairy with cows. He was pretty sure it was not milk fever according to her symptoms. She was alert, ears warm looked o.k. Well short story...Called the vet by 3pm because she was not looking good. They said definitley milk fever. She has been treated with as much IV calcium as they can do. She is not eating or drinking. We have pumped her with gallons of electrolytes, fresh cow mix and alfalfa meal. She did rebound yesterday to a point where she was eating and drinking, not up though. Then went slipped back into the no eating and drinking. We have her propped up as she wants to lay down. No good. The vet was out again today and pumped her again with fluids into the stomach. No response. Please help!! We are going on day 4. The vet also advised to not milk her, even a little.? I read about a molasses/applecider vinegar/yogurt/epsom salt drench. Could I give her that while she is not eating? Do I mix water with that? How much to give? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I will do whatever I can. I have 10 children who are attached to her. I will give my phone number, if anyone has time....608-676-2717. I thank everyone ahead of time for their help and time.
