I put a deposit on one anyway. Her name is Julia and she is a 3/4 Jersey, 1/4 Guernsey... She's tame, leads, very affectionate and only 5 1/2 mos. old. According to the seller, when she was born she had the typical fawn color of a Jersey but now that she's older she's turned brownish black. Her mother is on site and is a really nice brindle. Not too big size wise, but with a nice udder. (I wish I took my camera, but as usual I left it at home.) I know I'm looking at a long time before I get any milk from Julia but I couldn't help myself. ;D She looked at me while we were walking out to the pasture, with big brown eyes and I couldn't stand it. I fell in love and just had to make an offer for her. ;D
Holly in WA., thank you so much for putting me in contact with Donna, the seller. She's such a nice lady, and so easy to talk to. ;D She obviously loves her cows, and I am so happy that she is willing to sell Julia to me.
Julia's seller also has the Holstein that I've mentioned before. Her name is Domino and she is a very nice cow due to freshen the end of Aug. I spent a lot of time looking at her in the pasture but she wouldn't let me get close enough to pet her. I'm still trying to decide if I want to get Domino... she's a beauty, but she's so BIG and I know that she will produce much more milk then I can use. I just can't make up my mind one way or another.. Should I go ahead and get her knowing that I'd have fresh milk in a matter of weeks, or do I hold out for a smaller cow like another Jersey, which could take months to get? I can't decide!
