It would be undignified for her to toot her own horn ...so I will do it for her. ;D
When I got Cocoa, she was sold to me as a 3 gallon/day producer who didn't "take" with AI. We milked her OAD for about 11 months until she was confirmed bred. We dried her off and just milked Miss Swiss.
Cocoa freshened about a month ago with a bull calf and a HUGE udder. Poor girl had edema big time and since this was the first calf she got to keep, over doted on him. Meaning, she did not leave his side, for anything...not food, water minerals. She refused molasses, red raspberry leaves...ALL my normal just freshened offerings. SO we brought him up to the stall, so she would get some hay and sprayed liquid minerals, aloe vera, DMSO on her udder. That worked for the edema. The ADE worked for the mastitis and internal swelling in a vein in the udder of the back 2 quarters. I gave her 7 cc internally and 3 ccs on her "adrenal swirl" on her topline.
In hind sight, we should have milked her right away...not waited the customary 12 hours....as she didn't show signs of edema until the next morning.
Anyway...now that that's over with, she is giving us 1.5-2.5 gallons PER milking TAD on just spring grass....while still holding up for her calf who's not being separated...yet. I estimate she's holding back approximately 1-1.5 gallons.
She is holding condition nicely. I run my hands over her regularly as she still has a little bit of winter fuzz left. She is a Brown Swiss/Jersey cross.
