I wasn't able to get Grace to take the calcium paste last evening. I think I need a nozzle to put on the tube. I have the calk gun to use with the tube but if I had a nozzle I think I could have given it to her. But I did have my DD bring some real warm water with molassis in it. Grace drank that right down. It was probably 2 gal. Did this twice. She seemed to really like this. Anyway no signs so far of milk fever. Today went okay. I used the universal milker on Grace this morning and it worked okay, but this evening it gave me fits. Just the claw. I have a new claw ordered that should take care of the problem. I know I didn't get her milked out but she had been in the stantion so long this evening while I tried to get the claw to work and she started dancing and peeing so I let her out with Clover. I had intended to bottle feed from the get-go but I had such a stressful time yesterday that I couldn't see me trying to get in with Grace to get her to take a bottle. So, this morning after milking Grace I put Clover inside the barn and tried to get her to take a bottle. I had my GD helping me but to no avail. We could get her to get up but she refused the bottle. She would sniff it a bit and sit down or back away. My back was hurting so much and I was still exhausted from last night that I just let Grace take care of her. I will try again in a day or two. I just don't want the hold up problems I've had before with Grace.
Grace stayed in the corral with Spring Clover most of the day. I left it open so she could come out if she wanted to. I finally enticed her out with a little grain because I know she needed to graze some. I haven't got any good hay for her right now. About 5: p.m. she decided to take Clover for a stroll and teach her how to nibble. It was so cute. At milking time she was back in the corral so I had to lead her to the milk parlor. Clover was right under her all the way. Grace didn't like it one bit being in the parlor with Clover out. I put Clover in Hassies old area in the barn but that still didn't stop Grace bellowing, between munches.
Sorry this is so long. I just wanted to keep you all posted. Oh by the way. The cheap little digital camera acted as if it was working while I took pictures but when I tried to download them they weren't there.
