This was found in my moms Melaleuca book.. She orders most of the products but they can be replaced with other stuff found in the grocery store...
COW MASTITIS
" An infected quarter can be treated twice a day with a liberal application of liquid PAIN-A-TRATE. ( I used Tee Tree Oil in its place, that is basicly what Pain-A-Trate is.) Continue this treatment untill the cow is free of infection. If mastitis is severe, apply a liberal amount of T36-C5 before applying the liquid Pain-A-Trate. ( I used Unkers Medicated Cream. Its alot like Vicks Vapo Rub but made here in Wyoming..)
When you have an outbreak of Heard Mastitis, mix 1 ounce of Sol-U-Mel with 10 ounces of water and use as a teat dip. ( Sol-U-Mel is an antbacterial all purpose cleanser made from all natural products.. No bleach, Peroxide or other chemicals)
It has been suggested that for very serious cases 10cc of Sol-U-Mel be injected directly into the teat canal. ( I did not have to do this.) followed by massaging the quarter. THIS PROCEDURE SHOULD BE USED WITH CAUTION!! "
COW PRE DIP OR SPRAY
"To prepare a pre dip to clean the cpws befpre milking, combine 4 ounces of Antibacterial Liquid Soap, 16 ounces of Tough And Tender, and 2 ounces of Sol-U- Guard or Sol-U-Mel in enough water to make 5 gallons. This is very cost effective compared to the usual recommended brands of dip."
COW POST DIP
" Post dip should be used after milking to prevent infection (mastitis). Combine 2 gallons of Prop-glycol, 4 ounces of Antibacterial Liquid Soap, 26 ounces of Tough & Tender, and one Tube of Mate Shower Gel with enough water to make 5 gallons. This is used to moisturize the teats. Shake before filling the dip containers. This is a high emollient dip for frost and sun protection. The Prop-glycol is the anti-freeze ingrediant. "
COW UDDER WASH
"For a very effective Udder Wash, combine 1 quart of Tough & Tender with 3 quarts of water. Use 2 ounces of this mixture with 1 capful of Sol-U-Mel in 5 to 10 gallons of water. Immediately prior to putting on the milkers, spray the udders with a mixture of 1 part Sol-U-Mel combined with 5 parts of water.
( In a weeks time, one farmer reduced his somatic cell count from 52,000 to 15,000. This was the lowest count in the county. Later, Federal Inspectors investigated for peroxide use and found nothing wrong with what he was doing.) "
