I don't know why. When I bought her in March, I was told by her previous owner that they had planned on AI'ing everyone and they couldn't afford it, and in the meantime she got out with the neighbors bull and he believed her to be bred because he hadn't seen her in heat for a few cycles before I bought her. When I brought her home and had her vet-checked and vaccinated, she was open but I was okay with that because I wanted a Jersey, and his neighbor had an angus bull.
After I got her, she showed four heats, the last three she was AI'd and the last standing heat was in June, the second sunday I believe...I haven't seen her in heat since.
I'm going to add something because I know I'll be asked anyway:
after I had her AI'd the first time, she went into heat two more times.
So she was AI'd the second time, came into heat, and was AI'd the third time.
The vet palpated her after the third time and wasn't able to get further past her cervix because Sweetie was so clamped tight. But the vet said "her cervix feels like she's bred, but she won't let me get all the way though".
Sometime after the third AI, I had a vet out for something else, and nabbed him to palpate. He had the biggest fricken question mark on his face and muttered about it being too early to tell and to have her palapated again in a month I personally think he couldn't get through like the first vet.
We sent in a biotracking based on the first AI. It was negative.
We sent in a biotracking based on the second AI, and the post office lost it for over three weeks. Biotracking said it was good for a month and it would be fine. It was negative. The third biotracking was based on the third time...but I was so disgusted that I procrastinated sending it for three weeks (after all, they said it was okay for up to 30 days). So I sent it in, and it came back negative.
after she was AI'd for the second time, she started acting moody and her udder changed, but we had her AI'd because she appeared to be in heat, but I can't for the life of me remember if I actually saw her stand but I do remember having a question about her last standing. But we had her AI'd anyway because the AI tech said that if she were a month bred, AI'ing her wouldn't hurt at that point in the pregnancy (not sure if that was accurate).
I'm really want to know if she's bred or not because we were going to do the heat synchronization and I would hate it if she aborted because a mistake was made. Under the circumstances, I'm not sure I trust the last biotracking tests.
So tomorrow I'll call out a new vet....maybe that will resolve it?
