wow, so much awesome advice. i have to say it soothes me to hear others have gone through this.
i also have to admit that in my worry, i have already begun the excenel. the dosage is only 3 days, but now i am worried it will get worse because of it... sigh, you can do anything, you know? without worrying and regretting.
i am already feeding her Kombucha and the Countdown 7000 Jenn turned me on to. the Kombucha is an excellent probiotic.
I may add raw garlic to her feed if i take your advice and let her raise the calves, no one will care if the milk is garlicky.
i went back and read my last years posts, even looked at last years pics. this is different. this is much, much worse. this is definitely beyond a skin lesion. i will take pictures for those with the stomach to look. it is so weird, it really wasnt this bad mere days ago. since she calved it has exploded into awfulness. and it is swollen all around it, definitely infected beyond fungus.
i agree, she isnt letting down for me. but something about her udder just seems so different. it is hard to describe.
she was my first cow. we have been through so much. i cannot think of her in terms of meat. if we part with her, it will be at a dsale and i will regret it for the rest of my life. but sometimes it is worth it, to do something you know part of you will regret. am not sure i want to go through this every year with her. in fact, i am sure i dont want to. but i am not ready to make any choices like that yet. for now, i am going to try.
about the honey, i may try it and watch for bees. maybe i'll apply it tonight and wash it off in the morning? what i really would like to try is this product from nasco. but of course, like everything i ever needed, it is the most expensive item they have.
