Ok, these are repeat questions, I know and I KNOW I've read all this stuff somewhere on here before...but now I need to know all over again...
1) What was it about a cow that's pregnant holding her tail away from her lily? Did that mean she's going to blow soon?
2) Do cows dialate where you can see it? In other words, our cows' lily has gotten so big and soft and lately (last 2-3 days) the slit in the back is HUGE. When she's walking today it basically flops open with each step (how unflattering, don't tell her I said it!).
3) She's still eating well. Would she quit that if she was due NOW?
4) She's walking slowly and until it started to rain was keeping off to herself, taking a few steps, stopping and doing a very quick peek towards her back. Couldn't tell if that was about flys or... BUT she's got no signs of mucous that I can see, shouldn't I SEE something?
5) Still not bagged up really much at all. She's half dexter half jersey and due with her third calf "sometime". The lady I got her from said she saw them all doing the breeding thing last Oct, which is obviously a mistake, but could've been November in which case this cow could be ready any old time. Wouldn't she bag up more though, at least somewhat???
Basil is not what you'd call a friendly cow, although she has gotten to the point of letting us touch her when we're feeding her treats. I've really got no way to go out to the pasture and separate her off or anything. Our rain today isn't a big rain, just sprinkles here and there. I think she'd be fine if she decided she was going to give birth now. She was being funny earlier. It took her a LONGGG time to walk up to the water. Step, step, step, look back, maybe a quick lick to the side, step, step, step. Finally got to the water and took a long drink then waddled over to the round bale of hay and took a very small bite and then just rested her head on TOP of it and chewed. LOL!
I'm probably being paranoid thinking her time is near...but after all, this is a first for us and she is our girl! Plus, we had a bear just outside of their pasture yesterday so I've been looking out there a LOT today. Maybe I'm watching her too much.
Anyway, replies would certainly be welcome!
