Hey you guys, I've ran across talk in the past but am lousy at searching on this site---but I CLEARLY remember you guys recommending a man to help you with modifying a milker, not necessarily a Surge, but that's the one I have currently and it's just not working with both of my cows.
A little background here:
We've never used the sursingle. We've always just sat the bucket on the floor under the cow.
We've always milked Belle, twice. For her first milking we would put the bucket under her and milk the front 2 teats, then when they were done, remove the inflations and swing the bucket around to the back of the cow and milk the back 2 teats. I did that all of her lactation last year.
This year I'm doing the same thing with Belle and it's ok, she's milking beautifully, although it IS more time consuming that being able to milk her all out at once.
Marigold is a different story altogether.
She only has 3 working teats. Her rear right has had some sort of trauma and is mostly missing that teat, she came to us that way.
OK, so last year the Surge worked fine on her, again setting the bucket on the floor and placing 3 inflations on her and getting her milking done all at once, not a problem. THIS YEAR however, I find that she is too low (she is producing better than ever!) to put the milker under her and milk all 3 teats at the same time.
Soooo..........
I milk the front 2 quarters with the bucket sitting under her and I have to HOLD the inflations on and HOLD the air tubes UP enough keep the pulsation going or the weight of her udder presses down and squeezes off the air supply (think octopus here!). THEN...........I have to move the bucket kind of off to the side of the cow and maneuver the far outside inflation over to her one working rear quarter. THAT quarter is SO LOW that I have to hold the quarter up, hold the inflation on AND hold up the air tube too, again think OCTOPUS, this is frustrating for me, long and arduous for Marigold, and hurting my back to no end.
What's that guy's name that has helped some of your ladies on this forum to modify your bucket milkers that you have sung the praises of so frequently???
