We have a duck that was setting on a nest and she came off the nest this morning. When I looked at her she had a discolored tail. We caught her because our ducks are usually pretty white. When we looked she had maggots on her tail and on one patch under her wing. We have spent the last 2 hr picking out the maggots and using peroxide then bathing her in dawn. Had to give her a rest but still want to ck her again because I don't think we got them all.
I think she had a bad egg and that is how she came to get the maggots. However I would like to know what I could worm her with and what type of antibiotic I could give her. She will let me do most anything to her and is a pet. I do have access to most anything and really want to get this under control.
We have put her in a dog kennel for now so I can keep her off the nest. Please help me with any advice on the meds or treatment.
I have worked at a vet's office and we did have a cat come in full of maggots and know that I need to get them off & out of her but don't have a clue what to do for meds for our duck.
Oh her name is Chancy and she was the first duck we got because we had a day old puppy who needed a companion. She was raised in the kennel in the house until the puppy was adopted. She now has 3 other ducks and a goose for her little family.
Thank you all so much in advance, will ck back in a little while I have to go shower, I feel like I have maggots all over I don't but I will feel like they are crawling on me all day.
