I havent posted here before. Just now located this part. I dont know if this is anything you folk would want to try or not. I raise baby calves on the bottle. Now and then I get one with coccidia. Amprollium is the cure from the vet supply. Used to be a little plastic pouch for about $6 years back. I think its called Corrid. Anyway they stopped putting it in the little bags. To get it you have to buy a gallon for $100 give or take $10 depending on where you get it. Now my dad was born in 1925 and he had all kinds of old remedies he learned from his parrents. This day and time they arent practical. We move faster. I dont have time to go pick wild tree plums and sqeeze the juice to save back to treat a calf i might get with coccidia.
I got some calves a couple weeks back and noticed one had a small amount of bloody slime in his fesses. I thought sulfa (albon) will take care of that. He really didnt seem sick. he came down with the scours like they all do and cured just fine. The blood never would cure up. Finally it was real bloody. I would see puddles of blood on the ground. The calf was 2 weeks old. I saw no point in giving him more albon. It was saturday night and I called somebody. They told me the stupidest thing I ever heard. They said 10 ml of diesel 3 days in a row. He would be dead before long anyway so there was nothing to loose. I gave it to him that night in his milk. The next day he was too far gone to suck. I poured it down him with his milk. He sucked that night and the next day. I shot the last one down hin on the 3rd night before feeding him. Its been several days and he seems to be cured completely. This calf was getting worse and worse to the point of real bleeding. He is trying to break the pen down now at feeding time. I think there are probably a lot of cures and less toxic types. Anybody have any good ones?
