Hi All,
This is my first "please help" post and I'm hoping to learn a lot from all of you. Will try to give lots of info, but please let me know if I've forgotten something...
We have a 5 year old Guernsey girl that we have owned about a year. She will weigh about 1100 lbs. or so. Very healthy, good appetite, milks a little over 3 gallons a day. We were told she had a calf last November (not sure of date). She has been milked TAD since then. No problems at all.
She is getting a 14% pellet feed, dairy ration, alfalfa pellets, a little corn, kelp, soybean meal, free choice loose mineral, and baking soda. The milking girls have a bermuda/fescue pasture of 2-5 acres and have access to a round bale of good bermuda hay (not tested) used as a winter filler.
She has been vet checked and TB tested. The vet found nothing wrong - no cysts, said it all "felt" normal and he didn't see anything that would cause a problem. He advised a shot of Lute, which we did do. The Brangus bull we put with her at that time did not show any interest even though she was all "lovely dovey" to him. So we put another bull (Murray Grey) with her a month ago and she really seems to like him - Cow like anyway they shove each other around and lick on each other. But, we have never seen him cover her or her show any signs of coming into heat,.
What else... she is "bossy" to other animals and definitely is the "top cow". She is in the same pasture with an Ayrshire cow about the same size (dry), a smaller Jersey that is also milking, the bull, and several milk goats. They are all spoiled rotten and get treated very well. I will try to get pictures up as well. Any ideas? suggestions? Things to look for? We love her and hope to keep her but if we can't get her to breed....
Thanks!
Vicki
